If you live in one of the more than 120 low-income cooperatives in the Lower East Side or are a shareholder in a Housing Development Fund Corporation (HDFC), we can work with you to save money on utilities, increase your building’s energy efficiency, become more flood resilient, and otherwise keep your home safe and affordable.
We assist buildings to enroll in greening programs that can significantly reduce heating costs during the winter, cooling costs during the summer, as well as water bills and personal electric bills. These improvements help keep maintenance costs low.

Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)
The Weatherization Assistance Program is administered in New York State by the Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR), through its Office of Community Development. The Program provides energy services to income-eligible individuals and families to improve the energy efficiency of their dwellings and to reduce their housing expenditures for fuel.
Con Edison Multi-Family Energy Efficiency Program
Con Edison offers free common area assessments and in-unit efficiency upgrades. These energy surveys will show where your building could save energy and utility costs, as well as offer rebates that will lower the payback time.
Solar One/Here Comes Solar – Community “Shared” Solar and HDFC Rooftop Solar
Solar One and Here Comes Solar provide technical assistance to HDFC’s to determine if it is feasible to bring solar to their building’s roof. If roof space and shading is an issue, Community “Shared” Solar makes it possible for buildings to join shared solar projects on large roofs and still save money on electricity bills. For more information on either program, please fill out our Cooper Square Committee Community “Shared” Solar Survey and Cooper Square Committee Rooftop Solar Survey.
