Attention Market Rate Tenants
Living in Buildings
Receiving J-51 Tax Benefits!
Important legal workshop on the impact on market rate tenants in J-51 tax abatement buildings by the recent New York State Court of Appeals landmark ruling on the Roberts vs. Tishman Speyer Properties, L.P. case. The ruling held that these apartments were illegally deregulated into market rate units due to J-51 restrictions.

Market rate tenants who are living in apartments that were once rent regulated and in buildings receiving J-51 tax benefits from New York City’s Department of Finance have a potential case of rent reduction, rent overcharge and re-regulation of their apartment. If you meet these conditions this legal workshop will inform you how to proceed on your potential case.
Also, besides the impact on market rate J-51 tenants, the workshop will address its impact on Mitchell-lama and other types of subsidized housing tenants as well. Thanks to Ed Rosner for pointing out the limitation of just focusing on market rate tenants.
